Erik Welin

Loan Officer, EIB

Erik has been Loan Officer at EIB since 2017. Erik is a team expert on delivering the EIB’s public policy goals such as environmental, climate and social investments. Securitisation transactions are used as a tool to provide either capital relief and/or funding, in order to generate impact in terms of new investments. He has a focus on transactions in Central, Eastern and Northern Europe. Some noteworthy transactions he has been involved in include: Enpal, Germany – First European Solar ABS; DNB, Norway – First Green SRT in Norway; LBBW, Germany – Green SRT for Renewable Energy; Hypo Vorarlberg, Austria - Green SRT for Energy Efficiency mortgages and PKO Leasing, Poland – Largest Polish true sale ABS. From 2009 until 2017 he worked as Capital Markets Officer at EIB, raising funding by issuance of EIB AAA-rated bonds in the capital markets. He was focused on the markets in the Nordics, Asia, Americas and Pacific, issuing both private placements and benchmark bonds. Before joining EIB, he worked at a pricing analyst at State Street Bank between 2006 and 2009, pricing OTC Derivatives (IRS, CDS, options etc) in the fund industry. He started as research analyst at Institutional Shareholder Services in 2006, focused on corporate governance rating of German, Swiss, Austrian and Scandinavian companies. Erik was a trainee at the European Parliament in 2005, working in the committee on internal market and consumer protection. He holds an MBA in business and finance from Sacred Heart University (2010); LLM in law and economics from Manchester and Hamburg universities (2005) and an MSc in economics and political science from Linköping University (2005). He gained Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2013.
